The Festspielhaus St. Pölten is the central house for dance and music in Lower Austria and an architectural landmark of the provincial capital. Opened in 1997 as part of the modern government and cultural quarter, it has a large hall with excellent acoustics. Its programme places a particular emphasis on international contemporary dance, complemented by orchestral concerts, world music and guest performances by renowned companies. The Festspielhaus has thus established itself as an important platform for innovative movement theatre in the German-speaking world. As St. Pölten's cultural centre, it draws an audience from across the region.
