The Tyrolean Festival Erl is an internationally noted opera and concert festival in the small Tyrolean village of Erl near the Bavarian border. Performances take place in the striking white Passion Play House of 1959 and in the contrastingly black Festival Hall opened in 2012, which also makes winter festivals possible. The focus is on the grand opera and orchestral repertoire, including, time and again, the monumental works of Richard Wagner. The unusual architectural constellation and the setting amid the Tyrolean mountains give the festival an unmistakable profile and draw audiences from Austria, Germany and beyond.
