The Schauspiel Frankfurt is one of the most important drama theatres in the Rhine-Main region and shares the imposing double building at Willy-Brandt-Platz with the Frankfurt Opera, an architecturally unique post-war modernist ensemble from 1963. The house with around 740 seats has been consistently recognised under various directorships for its politically engaged and aesthetically bold repertoire — most recently under Anselm Weber the Schauspiel Frankfurt has been repeatedly nominated for German theatre festivals. The house ensemble produces about ten premieres per season, combining classics with contemporary drama. The house shares its double building on Willy-Brandt-Platz with the Frankfurt Opera, a singular ensemble of postwar modernism.
Opera and drama share a single stage tower — when the programme changes, one division's entire set descends hydraulically while the other rises.
