Tipi am Kanzleramt

Berlin, Germany

The Tipi am Kanzleramt is a theatre in Berlin-Tiergarten where chanson, cabaret, concerts, musicals and variety are presented. The red-draped theatre space has up to 550 seats, almost all of them fixed table seats at which one can also dine. It is the largest permanent tent stage in Europe and lies in the Tiergarten between the Federal Chancellery and the House of World Cultures. It was founded in 2002 as a jubilee tent for the tenth birthday of the Bar jeder Vernunft. The name refers to the tent shape of the tipi. The Tipi am Kanzleramt opened on 8 June 2002 under its founder and director Holger Klotzbach. At the same site, the Tempodrom event tent had stood until the end of 1998, in whose founding Klotzbach had also been involved. The opening of the Tipi was celebrated with a large revue broadcast live on 3sat. Among those on stage were Meret Becker, Otto Sander, Brigitte Mira and the Geschwister Pfister, with Alfred Biolek and Gayle Tufts hosting the evening. The co-founder Lutz Deisinger is responsible for the artistic direction.
