The Stage Theater an der Elbe is Hamburg's newest major musical theatre, located in the harbour directly opposite the Elbphilharmonie on Steinwerder Island. Opened in 2014, it is, with around 1,840 seats, one of the largest musical theatres in Germany. Due to the location on the southern Elbe bank, visitors traditionally reach the theatre via Stage's own ferry across the Elbe — a unique arrival situation in German theatre. The house presents Stage Entertainment major productions like Disney's Frozen and, together with the Neue Flora and Operettenhaus, completes Hamburg's musical trio that makes the city Germany's musical capital. It complements the Neue Flora and the Operettenhaus to form Hamburg's celebrated musical trio.
The house is so large that the ferry used to reach it runs specifically for the theatre — a ship as part of the stage experience.
