The Elbphilharmonie, opened in 2017 on the old Kaispeicher A warehouse in Hamburg harbour, is one of the most spectacular concert halls in the world and Hamburg's new cultural landmark. Designed by Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron, the building places a curved glass construction on the brick base of the historic warehouse. The Grand Hall with 2,100 seats was designed by Japanese acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota — over 10,000 individually milled gypsum panels on walls and ceiling create perfect acoustics. With over 4 million visitors annually, the Elphi is one of the most visited concert locations in Europe and home to the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. Its acclaimed "White Skin" of over 10,000 individually milled gypsum panels gives every seat perfect sound.
The famous White Skin in the Grand Hall, with over 10,000 individually milled gypsum panels, was shaped by Japanese acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota so that each of the 2,100 seats receives perfect sound.
