The Schlosspark Theater is a theatre in the Steglitz quarter of Berlin's Steglitz-Zehlendorf district. The tradition-rich theatre has been run as a private theatre by Dieter Hallervorden since 2008. The history of the renowned theatre reaches back to 1804. In 1921 the theatre found a new home in the service wing of the Wrangelschlösschen (Gutshaus Steglitz). This neoclassical building was specially converted for the purpose and seated 440. After the Second World War, Boleslaw Barlog ran the theatre for 27 years until 1972. Hildegard Knef, Klaus Kinski and Martin Held were among the ensemble. His successor was first Hans Lietzau and then Boy Gobert. In the post-war period, German-language premieres of famous contemporary playwrights had their first performances here. Samuel Beckett himself directed his well-known play Waiting for Godot at the house. Hildegard Knef gave her theatre debut at the Schlosspark Theater. For the premiere of Max Brod's dramatised version of Franz Kafka's The Castle, the theatre's ensemble was awarded the German Critics' Prize in 1953.
Dieter Hallervorden took over the Schlosspark Theater in 2008 and brought the tradition-rich private theatre to a new flowering after years of closure — Romy Schneider and Hildegard Knef once debuted here.
