Lifeline Theatre

Chicago, USA

Lifeline Theatre is a small but highly regarded off-Loop theatre in Chicago's Rogers Park neighbourhood and a cultural anchor of the local Glenwood Avenue Arts District. Founded in 1982 by five Northwestern University graduates, the ensemble company moved into its permanent home in 1985 – a converted Commonwealth Edison electrical substation, an intimate brick theatre of just under 100 seats right beside the Red Line tracks. Lifeline is best known for its imaginative literary stage adaptations: with inventive, unconventional staging in a small space, the ensemble brings novels and stories to life. Each season the house presents three MainStage productions and three KidSeries shows for young audiences. Over more than four decades it has created over 130 world-premiere literary adaptations, many honoured with Chicago's Joseph Jefferson Award.
