Anchorage Opera, founded in 1962, is the only professional opera company in the state of Alaska. Performances take place in the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts in Anchorage. Despite the vast distances and the particular conditions of the far north, the company brings grand repertoire to the stage and draws internationally sought-after singers to Alaska. As a cultural outpost at the edge of the continent, Anchorage Opera holds a unique place in the US operatic landscape.
