The Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) in Philadelphia is one of the most prestigious opera conservatories in the world and at the same time an intimate venue for opera. Founded in 1934, the institution trains opera singers exclusively – and tuition-free, funded by foundations and patrons. In its own Helen Corning Warden Theater, a small, elegant hall seating around 250, AVA stages fully produced operas with orchestra each season, giving audiences a close-up view of tomorrow's stars. Many of its graduates now sing at the great opera houses of the world. AVA thus combines the atmosphere of an exclusive chamber opera house with the pioneering energy of a world-class talent academy.
AVA admits only a handful of singers per class through highly competitive international auditions.
