CIBC Theatre

Chicago, USA

The CIBC Theatre on West Monroe Street in Chicago's Loop opened in 1906 as the Majestic Theatre and for decades ranked among the city's leading vaudeville houses, hosting stars such as Harry Houdini, the Marx Brothers and Fanny Brice. As the first theatre built in Chicago after the devastating Iroquois Theatre fire, it was noted for its fire safety. From 1945 it was known as the Sam Shubert Theatre and became a stage for major Broadway musicals such as Gypsy and Hello, Dolly!. Following an extensive restoration in 2005–06, the ornate auditorium designed by Edmund R. Krause and the Rapp brothers once again shows its original colour scheme. Today Broadway In Chicago presents national tours, pre-Broadway runs and world premieres in the 1,800-seat house.
