The Junges Theater Bonn is one of the largest and most successful children's and youth theatres in Germany. Founded in 1969, it became known above all for its elaborate stage adaptations of popular youth book series — foremost "Die drei ???," whose live versions with the original voice actors became veritable mass events in large arenas. Unlike most houses of its kind, the theatre largely finances itself this way and is barely reliant on subsidies. Alongside the crowd-pleasing series, it maintains a sophisticated repertoire of its own for young audiences and is regarded as a pioneer of youth theatre that combines artistic ambition with wide reach. Its in-house productions regularly go on tour throughout Germany.
The live audio-play stagings of "Die drei ???" fill entire concert arenas with thousands of spectators — a youth theatre reaching the scale of pop concerts.
