The WUK – Werkstätten- und Kulturhaus (Workshop and Culture House) – is one of the largest self-managed cultural and social centres in Europe, set in a former locomotive factory in Vienna's ninth district. Since 1981 the sprawling complex has united a concert hall, theatre and performance spaces, studios, workshops and initiatives under one roof. The programme ranges from pop, rock and world-music concerts through contemporary dance and theatre to exhibitions and social projects. As a vibrant home of the independent scene, the WUK combines artistic production with social engagement and is integral to Vienna's cultural life.
