Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles is the fourth hall of the Los Angeles Music Center and home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. The project began in 1987 with a gift of 50 million dollars from Lillian Disney, Walt Disney's widow. Frank Gehry delivered his designs in 1991; to save money, the originally planned stone exterior was replaced by a stainless steel skin, and Gehry used the CATIA software to realise the complex geometry. After construction delays, the hall opened on 23 October 2003. It seats 2,265 and combines vineyard-style seating, as in the Berlin Philharmonie, with elements of the classical shoebox. The acoustics are by Minoru Nagata and Yasuhisa Toyota; walls and ceiling are finished in Douglas fir, the floor in oak.
The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, opened in 2003 according to designs by Frank Gehry, is one of the most iconic modern concert halls in the world — the curved stainless-steel façades are a landmark of Downtown Los Angeles.
