Los Angeles Opera (LA Opera), founded in 1986, is the youngest of the major US opera companies and today the fourth largest in the country. It is resident in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Los Angeles Music Center. Under its long-time general director Plácido Domingo and conductor James Conlon it gained international stature; among its most talked-about productions was the "Ring" cycle staged by Achim Freyer. Its repertoire spans grand standard works, baroque opera, commissions and contemporary pieces, complemented by ambitious directorial visions.
