Theater Nestroyhof Hamakom

Wien, Austria

The Theater Nestroyhof Hamakom is a small but significant Vienna stage in the historic Nestroyhof – an Art Nouveau building by the architect Oskar Marmorek in the Leopoldstadt. The auditorium looks back on an eventful history closely bound up with Vienna's Jewish cultural life. Under the name Hamakom (Hebrew for "the place"), the house today devotes itself to a programme centred on remembrance culture, Jewish themes and contemporary, socially engaged theatre. With its intense, intimate atmosphere and its clear thematic profile, it is a special venue of Vienna's independent theatre scene.
