The Teatro Verdi is the opera house of Pisa and one of the largest and most renowned theatres in Tuscany. Opened in 1867, its spacious auditorium with several tiers of boxes accommodates a broad audience. As a teatro di tradizione, the house cultivates the grand opera and ballet repertoire and is part of the Tuscan theatre network that develops productions together with Lucca and Livorno. Beyond the classical season, the Teatro Verdi also presents contemporary music theatre and dance. Set in the centre of the famous university and tower city, it is a central cultural institution of Pisa and western Tuscany.
