Artisti in Piazza is an international street-arts and theatre festival in the medieval hill town of Pennabilli in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. Since 1997, every summer the festival transforms the lanes, courtyards and squares of the historic centre into an open stage for artists from all over the world. The programme brings together street theatre, contemporary circus, music, dance, puppetry and visual performance, ranging from quietly poetic to spectacularly acrobatic acts. Over several days, Pennabilli becomes a vibrant meeting place where art can be experienced directly, free of charge and in the midst of public space. With its combination of international quality, intimate atmosphere and the picturesque setting of the Apennines, Artisti in Piazza ranks among the best-known festivals of its kind in Italy.
Pennabilli, home to only around 3,000 residents, fills with thousands of spectators during the festival days.
