Sarasota Opera, founded in 1960, performs in the lovingly restored Sarasota Opera House, a historic 1926 theatre on Florida's Gulf Coast. The company won worldwide attention with its "Verdi Cycle": between 1989 and 2016 it brought every note Giuseppe Verdi ever composed to the stage – an undertaking unique in operatic history. Beyond that, the house cultivates the repertoire with great fidelity and care. In Sarasota the company is the centrepiece of a remarkably dense cultural life.
