The Raimund Theater is, alongside the Ronacher, the second large musical stage of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, named after the Viennese playwright Ferdinand Raimund. Opened in 1893 in the style of the late Ringstrasse era, it initially served popular plays and operetta. Since the 1990s it has been a central place for German-language musicals and has produced numerous world and German-language premieres that established Vienna as a musical metropolis. The elegant, classical theatre building in the Mariahilf district seats around a thousand. With its large long-running productions, the Raimund Theater is a crowd-puller and a fixture of the city's cultural life.
Opened in 1893, named after Ferdinand Raimund; since the 1990s a home of major German-language musicals.
