Portland Opera, founded in 1964, is the leading opera company of the US state of Oregon and performs mainly in the Keller Auditorium as well as in smaller houses. The company combines popular repertoire with contemporary works and chamber-opera formats, and in recent years has moved toward a summer festival model. An affiliated resident-artist programme nurtures young singers. In Portland's independent, creative climate, the company stands for an accessible, varied operatic tradition in the Pacific Northwest.
