Opera Theatre of Saint Louis (OTSL), founded in 1976, is a renowned late-spring opera festival at the Loretto-Hilton Center of Webster University. A distinctive feature has shaped the company from the start: all operas are sung in English. The festival is accompanied by musicians of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. OTSL enjoys a national reputation for cultivating new American opera – with numerous commissions and premieres – and for its high-calibre young-artists programme, which has helped launch many important US careers. The intimate house allows an unusually close, text-clear operatic experience.
