Opera Southwest, founded in 1972, is the professional opera company of Albuquerque, New Mexico. It became known beyond the region for its speciality of painstakingly reconstructing rarely staged or seemingly lost works and bringing them back to the stage – including US premieres of long-forgotten operas. Alongside these rarities, the company maintains the popular repertoire. In a region shaped by Hispanic and Indigenous culture, Opera Southwest is the central point of reference for professional music theatre.
