Opera Colorado, founded in 1981, is the leading opera company of the Rocky Mountain region and since 2005 has performed in the modern Ellie Caulkins Opera House in the Denver Performing Arts Complex. In its early years the company was known for "in-the-round" productions in a large hall before moving into a dedicated opera house. Today it presents grand repertoire in internationally cast productions, complemented by education programmes and occasional contemporary works. In Denver, Opera Colorado is the central point of reference for professional opera.
