Olney Theatre Center in Olney, Maryland, sits on a campus of about 14 acres between Washington, Baltimore and Frederick and is one of Maryland's two official state theatres. Founded in 1938 as a summer theatre, it now presents a year-round season of plays, American classics, new works and, above all, musicals. Its venues include the 429-seat Mainstage, the historic theatre building and the outdoor Root Family Stage, home to its summer Shakespeare festival. Olney also runs the National Players, America's longest-running touring company.
