The Odeon is an extraordinary theatre space in Vienna's Leopoldstadt, housed in the former exchange for agricultural produce. The wide, column-framed neoclassical hall lends performances a special, monumental atmosphere. The house is the home of the Serapions Ensemble, which has developed here since the 1980s an independent theatre of images, movement and music – beyond the spoken-theatre mainstream. With its combination of imposing architecture and visually powerful, physical theatre, the Odeon holds a unique place in Vienna's theatrical landscape.
