The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark is one of the largest and most visited cultural centres in the United States and the artistic heart of the state of New Jersey, just a short train ride from Manhattan. It opened in 1997 and comprises several halls, including the large Prudential Hall with around 2,800 seats and the smaller Victoria Theater. NJPAC is the home of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and presents an exceptionally broad programme of classical, jazz, pop, world music, dance and theatre. With extensive education programmes and its role as an engine of Newark's urban renewal, the centre has made a name for itself far beyond the region and ranks among the most important multi-disciplinary venues on the American East Coast.
Around half a million people attend the centre's events each year.
