The Musikverein in Vienna is home to the Great Hall – the famous "Golden Hall" – one of the acoustically finest and most beautiful concert halls in the world. Opened in 1870 in neoclassical style to designs by Theophil Hansen, the building is the seat of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde and home to numerous top orchestras. The Golden Hall is known worldwide through the annually broadcast New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic. Alongside grand orchestral concerts, it hosts chamber music, solo recitals and choral concerts. The Musikverein is regarded as one of the most significant landmarks of Vienna's musical tradition and draws music lovers from around the world.
