Knoxville Opera, founded in 1978, is the leading opera company in eastern Tennessee and performs mainly in the magnificent Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville. Known far beyond the region is its annual "Rossini Festival" – a large, free street fair with Italian flair that draws tens of thousands of visitors into the city centre and combines opera with an exuberant urban celebration. Alongside this flagship, Knoxville Opera presents grand repertoire and is strongly committed to music education.
