Houston Grand Opera (HGO), founded in 1955, is among the most important opera companies in the United States and is resident in the Wortham Theater Center. It became internationally renowned for its exceptional commitment to new work: HGO has commissioned and premiered more than 70 operas – including John Adams's "Nixon in China" (1987).
