The Glimmerglass Festival

Cooperstown, USA

The Glimmerglass Festival is a renowned summer opera festival in Cooperstown, New York, founded in 1975. Performances take place in the Alice Busch Opera Theater, opened in 1987 – a wooden theatre on the shore of Otsego Lake whose side walls can be opened to let in the country air before curtain. The festival is known for carefully crafted productions of standard repertoire, baroque opera, American musical theatre and commissions, and for a young-artists programme that has launched many US singing careers. Under artistic directors such as Francesca Zambello it has become one of the most important summer opera stages in America.
