Fort Worth Opera, founded in 1946, is the oldest continuously operating opera company in Texas and performs in the magnificent Bass Performance Hall. Long run on a traditional season, it switched in 2007 to a compact spring festival format that concentrates productions in close succession. The company is known for its commitment to American and contemporary opera, including commissions and regional premieres. In the Dallas–Fort Worth "Metroplex", it forms an independent, distinctive operatic pole alongside The Dallas Opera.
