Florida Grand Opera (FGO) was formed in 1994 from the merger of the Greater Miami Opera (founded 1941) and the Opera Guild of Fort Lauderdale, making it one of the oldest performing-arts organisations in Florida. Its main venue is the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami; the company also performs in Fort Lauderdale. FGO presents grand repertoire in internationally cast productions while reflecting the multilingual, Latin-American-inflected culture of South Florida. In Miami it is the central point of reference for professional opera.
