The Dallas Opera, founded in 1957, is one of the leading opera companies of the American Southwest and since 2009 has performed in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center – a striking circular building designed by Norman Foster. Throughout its history it combined international star casts with sophisticated productions; its very first season was closely linked to Maria Callas, who appeared in Dallas. Its repertoire includes grand classics as well as commissions, and the company is notably committed to advancing women conductors.
