Cincinnati Opera

Cincinnati, USA

Cincinnati Opera, founded in 1920, is the second-oldest opera company in the United States after the Metropolitan Opera and stages a long-established summer festival. From 1920 to 1971 its performances took place in the pavilion of the Cincinnati Zoo – with singers occasionally competing against the calls of the animals. In 1972 the company moved into the magnificent Cincinnati Music Hall, one of the finest concert and opera venues in the country. Today Cincinnati Opera combines grand standard repertoire with commissions and contemporary opera and ranks among the most distinguished summer stages in the US.
