Utah Opera was founded in 1978 by singer Glade Peterson and is the leading opera company of the state of Utah. It performs in the historic Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City. In 2002 the company merged with the Utah Symphony to form the joint organisation "Utah Symphony | Opera" – a pioneering US model linking an orchestra and an opera company. Its repertoire ranges from beloved classics to carefully chosen rarities; its own production studios build costumes and sets, also for other US houses.
