Theater Vorpommern

Stralsund, Germany

The Theater Vorpommern is a three-genre touring theatre with main venues in Stralsund, Greifswald, and Putbus on Rügen. The Stralsund theatre building with around 540 seats, a Classicist building from 1916, is the home venue. The shared ensemble produces drama, music theatre, and ballet with the Philharmonic Orchestra Vorpommern and serves a geographically extensive region between the Baltic Sea and the Mecklenburg Lake District. Stralsund itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site as a Hanseatic brick Gothic city; the unique historical setting also shapes the theatre. The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Vorpommern State Music Days supplement the programme. Its network includes the neoclassical theatre on the island of Rügen, one of Germany's smallest and northernmost stages.
