The Theater und Orchester GmbH Neubrandenburg/Neustrelitz is a three-genre touring theatre serving the Mecklenburg Lake District region with drama, music theatre, and ballet. Main venues are Neubrandenburg and Neustrelitz, with performances additionally in numerous places in the region. The Neubrandenburg drama house with around 460 seats, a modern building from 1996, replaced the historic theatre destroyed in the war. The house ensemble works with the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic. Despite the peripheral location and relative size of the service region, the house produces about twelve premieres per season with a focus on contemporary drama and audience-friendly versions of classics. The Mecklenburg Lake District, with over a thousand lakes, is the most water-rich landscape in Central Europe.
