Theater Mönchengladbach

The Theater Mönchengladbach is the second performance venue of the Theater Krefeld Mönchengladbach gGmbH and houses the shared ensemble of the two Lower Rhine cities. The house, a 1950s building with about 700 seats, is a three-genre stage with drama, music theatre, and ballet. The continuous programming with Krefeld makes it one of the most productive repertory theatres in North Rhine-Westphalia — the ensemble produces significantly more premieres per season than a single mid-size city theatre. Mönchengladbach maintains its own theatrical tradition dating from the nineteenth century; the cooperation with Krefeld after the Second World War secured the continued existence of professional theatre for both cities.
