The Theater Krefeld is part of the Theater Krefeld Mönchengladbach gGmbH — a unique cooperation between two cities that have jointly run a theatre since 1950. The house in Krefeld with around 800 seats, a modern functional building from 1963, is a three-genre stage with drama, music theatre, and ballet. The Lower Rhenish Symphonics form the orchestra. The shared ensemble shuttles between the houses in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach and produces classics of the repertoire as well as contemporary works for a mixed audience from the Lower Rhine. The dual-location constellation is considered nationwide as a model for inter-municipal theatre cooperation. Krefeld and Mönchengladbach lie only 25 kilometres apart, and actors sometimes perform in both cities on the same day.
