Theater Koblenz

Koblenz, Germany

The Theater Koblenz is the multi-genre theatre at the Deutsches Eck, that striking headland where the Moselle and Rhine converge. The neoclassical house was built in 1787 by the last Elector of Trier, Clemens Wenceslaus, making it one of the oldest continuously played theatre buildings in Germany. With opera, drama, ballet, and concerts it serves the Middle Rhine region, whose spectacular river landscape of castles and vineyards is part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. The comparatively small but refined house maintains an astonishingly versatile repertoire and asserts itself as the cultural heart of a city whose history reaches back to Roman times. Its intimate historic auditorium is regarded as one of the most charming in the Rhineland-Palatinate theatre landscape.

Did you know?

The theatre was endowed by an Elector as one of his last official acts — a few years later the French Revolution swept away the old electorate.
