The Theater im Pfalzbau in Ludwigshafen is one of the largest guest-performance houses in the Palatinate. Without a permanent ensemble of its own, it programmes high-calibre dance, drama, and opera productions from Germany and abroad and is especially known for its international dance and theatre festivals. The monumental building shapes the cityscape of Ludwigshafen, which lies opposite Mannheim on the Rhine and is marked by the chemical industry. The "International May Festival" and the BASF cultural series make the house a supraregional attraction — co-financed by the chemical company based in the town, which maintains a long tradition of cultural patronage. With its curated programme, the Theater im Pfalzbau offers a window onto international stage art.
