The Theater Vorpommern is a multi-genre theatre with venues in Greifswald, Stralsund, and Putbus on Rügen, supplying the sparsely populated region on the Western Pomeranian Baltic coast with opera, drama, ballet, and concerts. As one of the most important cultural houses in the far northeast of Germany, it fulfils a wide provision mandate across an area that elsewhere would be served by several theatres. It cooperates closely with the tradition-rich University of Greifswald and shapes the cultural life of a region defined by lagoons, islands, and brick Gothic. The network includes the dainty neoclassical theatre in the island town of Putbus — one of the smallest and northernmost theatre buildings in Germany — which in summer draws its own audience of holidaymakers and locals.
The network's theatre in the island town of Putbus on Rügen is as small and as far north as hardly any other professional theatre building in Germany.
