The Theater für Niedersachsen (TfN), based in Hildesheim, is a three-genre touring theatre with drama, music theatre, and ballet. The house with around 600 seats, a building from 1899 that has been renovated multiple times, is the home venue; the ensemble tours through over 50 venues in Lower Saxony and thus makes professional repertory theatre available in regions that would otherwise have no access. The TfN is considered one of the most innovative touring theatres in Germany and has been repeatedly recognised for its programme quality and commitment to children's and youth theatre. The Hildesheim Symphonics form the orchestra. Based in Hildesheim, it serves a wide region of Lower Saxony with opera, drama, and concerts.
Hildesheim was almost completely destroyed in 1944 — the theatre building survived as one of the few historical buildings and was carefully restored.
