The Theater Bamberg, housed in the building erected in 1808 as a court theatre at Schillerplatz, is one of the oldest continuously operated theatres in Bavaria. The house with around 600 seats attained special significance through E.T.A. Hoffmann, who worked here from 1808 to 1813 as theatre director and house composer and processed his experiences in the Fantasy Pieces in Callot's Manner. Today's theatre is a drama stage with a concentrated repertoire of classics and contemporary drama. Bamberg also has the International Artists' House Villa Concordia and the Bamberg Symphony — the cultural density of the UNESCO World Heritage city is extraordinary for its size. E. T. A. Hoffmann lived and worked in Bamberg from 1808 to 1813, and his house by the theatre is now a museum.
E.T.A. Hoffmann lived and worked in Bamberg from 1808-1813 — his house at Schillerplatz, directly next to the theatre, is today a museum and literary pilgrimage site.
