The Theater Ansbach, housed in the Margrave's Palace built in 1804, is the central stage of the Middle Franconian district capital. The historic theatre venue with around 280 seats maintains a concentrated guest performance programme of drama, music theatre, and concerts. Ansbach has a remarkable theatrical tradition: Margravine Friederike Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach promoted a flourishing court theatre in the late eighteenth century that was internationally regarded. Today Ansbach is particularly known for the annual Bach Weeks, one of the most important German festivals for Baroque music, whose concerts partly take place in the theatre. Ansbach was the birthplace of Queen Caroline of Great Britain, wife of George II.
Ansbach was the birthplace of Queen Caroline of Great Britain-Hanover, wife of George II — the cultural connections between Ansbach and London shaped the eighteenth-century court theatre.
