The Teatro La Latina on Plaza de la Cebada grew out of a cinema in the early 20th century and is named after Beatriz Galindo, known as La Latina, a humanist at the court of Isabella I. The building is the work of the architect Pedro Muguruza. In the 20th century it was one of the most important stages for comedy and revue in Spain. Today it presents comedies as well as musicals such as Los chicos del coro and El Zorro.
