The Teatro Calderón on Calle de Atocha, facing Plaza de Jacinto Benavente, opened on 18 June 1917 as the Teatro Odeón and has carried its current name since 1927. It was designed by Eduardo Sánchez Eznarriaga, and the stained glass in the foyer is by Maumejean. With more than 1,000 seats it served mainly as a venue for musical theatre for much of its history and today stages large musicals such as The Book of Mormon and The Addams Family (La Familia Addams).
