Festspielhaus Baden-Baden

Baden-Baden, Germany

The Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, opened in 1998 in the converted old railway station building of the city, is with 2,500 seats the second-largest opera and concert house in Germany after the Berlin Philharmonic. It is exclusively privately financed and understands itself as a European festival house of international rank. The programme concentrates on guest performances by the world's leading opera companies and orchestras — the Berlin Philharmonic has been the residence orchestra since the opening. The Easter Special Festival and the Whitsun Festival under Cecilia Bartoli have made the house one of the most important European festival locations. The Festspielhaus produces no productions of its own but receives top orchestras and opera guests from around the world.
