Burghofbühne Dinslaken

Dinslaken, Germany

The Burghofbühne Dinslaken is the regional theatre of the northern Ruhr region and a pure touring theatre with no fixed home-house audience. Founded in 1947 in the postwar period at the historic Burghof of Dinslaken, from which it takes its name, it plays from there numerous towns on the Lower Rhine and in the northern region. In this way it brings professional drama — from classics through youth plays to contemporary drama — to areas that maintain no ensemble theatre of their own, and is an important cultural provider in the structurally weak north of the Ruhr region, marked by mining and structural change. As one of the oldest regional theatres in North Rhine-Westphalia, it combines a cultural-provision mandate with artistic ambition.
